Trail to Old West Study Ends with Cowboy Poetry Contest

Mrs. Ricci's sixth grade Language Arts classes recently experienced the West as it once was. The learning adventure led students through the everyday experiences of cowboys, cowgirls, ranching and rodeo.
 
Armed with knowledge, students then composed cowboy poems and shared them in a classroom poetry contest. Students were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. All poems were then entered in the Red Steagall Cowboy Poetry Contest.
 
Steagall hosts The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering & Western Swing Festival Oct. 23 - 25 at the Fort Worth Stock Yards. The children's poetry event will begin 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24. For more information open the link.
 
Mrs. Ricci congratulates the following students for winning their class's Cowboy Poetry Contest.
  • 1st Place Winners: Robby Green (1st period), Robert Jordan (4th period), Kevin Stallcup (5th period), Bella Kesey (6th period), Karsen Morgan  (7th period) and Carter Shackelford (8th period)
  • 2nd Place Winners: Jackson Gwilliam (1st period), Josh Monkres (4th period), Marcela Sanchez (5th period), Hannah Woolf (6th period), Barrett Brooks (7th period) and Madison Little (8th period)
  • 3rd Place Winners: Kellbie Throckmorton, Christian Mares and Jonathan Chancellor (1st period); Lexis DeLao, Tilghman Parr and Chloe Polk (4th period); Erika Ashley (5th period); Kursten Hughes and River Romine (6th period); Ashton Talamantes (7th period); and Katelin Price (8th period)
